    This AMV is a comedy skit without words. The editor definitely put some effort into the video, it is short but still a good example of the editors skills and creativity.

Under! Where?

    This AMV, rocks, it's fast, it's funny, and any poor soul who sees it will probably be humming the song for the next couple weeks. The AMV has quite a bit of otaku fan fare in it, couldn't help but laugh at a couple parts.

The Clap

    1st post of the year is an AMV by Ileia. This AMV is fast paced and pretty funny, Ileia did a great job at putting together this video. The song and dance scenes go well together, and am amazed at how smoothly the scenes transitions given the speed and tempo of the song.

    Another amazing video by Ileia. This AMV is called Chick Chicky Boom, and is a fast paced hilarious AMV. She did the transitions really well, the mood of this AMV is right on, an excellent edit with the action on screen going perfectly with the music.

About the Anime: Kintarou Oe (the main character) doesn't look like it, but he is a genius who completed all his university courses and then quit before graduating. He becomes a wandering student, going from place to place on his bicycle, seeking to learn what he can about life, the world, and women. He is willing and able to do any job he has to prove himself. His travels take him to a variety of locations and a variety of women, each who learns to love the hardworking guy, but not before he can run off. 

Safety Dance AMV

    Everybody knows the Safety Dance song, but most people have no idea what anime is used in this AMV. The anime seems to be a popular anime amongst fellow otaku though.

About The Anime

     Story: So the story is this... nothing. Just absolutely nothing except that it's about the life of Yukko, Mai and Mio at school and everyone around them. At first you see also Nano-chan and the mini professor, but later on they are also part of the story of the three main characters. Other than that... everything is just shorts of complete and udder randomness and chaos, full of hilarity that you'll roll on the floor laughing. Sometimes even laughing your ass off.

    There is also the helvitica standard shorts, which are just complete random shorts that sometimes don't make any sense, but sometimes do. They do leave you laughing and with a WTF? face.

Naughty Song ^_^

   Ok so there has been a big gap since the last post so this one is well worth it. Started watching this AMV and about fell out the chair, some friends that were over said that they'd be singing that song at work all week.

The Darkest of Places

About the Anime
Simply put, half the show is about the romantic relationship between the Senjougahara and Araragi.
The other half is about a constant argument between two values: The rational vs the idealistic, with Araragi as Mr. Nice Guy seeking happy end for everyone. Solution of supernatural abnormalities as the topic of the argument.

Hachikuji, Kanbaru, and Hanekawa's arcs develop the relationship of leading couple while offering a new topic to the story. Each arc is an incident focused on a different girl, but the all arcs combine to show a whole picture of Araragi and Senjougahara closing their personal distances.

"Bakemonogatari" is essentially a verbal performance with visual support. Story is driven by back and forth debate on various issues.

Stupid Couple

    A funny and sweet video. The creator of the AMV said they really enjoyed creating this, and it shows in the quality of the video. The way the scenes all add up to a finale, shows it was well planned, and every great anything, started with a great written plan.    Enjoy.

    A hilarious video from a female editor, the song is from a female singer as well, the song is catchy and good. She uses various anime, to many to list but for the original and a list of the anime used go to AnimeMusicVideos.org. All of the scenes are pretty much someone getting a beat down or being a klutz.

A cute AMV

Misa Regretting what Misa Said, created by Jennifer Dury.
The song is Regretting what I said by Christine Lavin.
The video uses various anime sources, but the person singing is from Death Note. I like when she took the dog Ien from Cowboy Bebop and composited it on to another clip. She also composited the death note book in the snow scene when the book falls onto the snow.


I always thought that Misa got the shaft in the Death Note anime---she gets used and abused by Light through the whole thing and then basically shoved off to the side for the second half of the series. The creator of the AMV wanted to give her a voice---give her some "teeth" to bite back at Light. She had been a fan of Christine Lavin's for song for years and thought it fit Misa perfectly. I hope you enjoy it.

Death Note and Misa

Raito Yagami is an intelligent young man who resents what appears to be a relentless increase of crime and corruption in the world around him. His life undergoes a drastic change when he discovers a mysterious notebook, known as the "Death Note", lying on the ground. The Death Note's instructions claim that if a human's name is written within it, that person shall die. Light is initially skeptical of the notebook's authenticity, but after experimenting with it, he realizes that the Death Note is real. After meeting with the previous owner of the Death Note, a shinigami named Ryuk, Light seeks to become "the God of the New World" by passing his keen judgment on those he deems to be evil or who get in his way.

Soon, the number of inexplicable deaths of reported criminals catches the attention of theInternational Police Organization and a mysterious detective known only as "L". L quickly learns that the serial killer, dubbed by the public as "Kira" (キラ^?, derived from the typical Japanese pronunciation of the English word "killer"), is located in Japan. He also concludes that Kira can kill people without laying a finger on them. Light realizes that L will be his greatest nemesis, and a game of psychological cat and mouse between the two begins.

Misa Amane, another Death Note owner, finds Light. Obsessed by Kira after the death of her parents' murderer, she devotes herself to helping Light, but is captured by L. Light makes a plan involving renouncing ownership of both Death Notes, and all of his memories of them, and turns himself in to L for surveillance. Together, Light and L investigate eight people from the company "Yotsuba" who are using Misa's Death Note for their own profit. While arresting them, Light recovers all his memories when he touches the Death Note. He remembers and continues his plan of compelling the former owner of Misa's Death Note, the shinigami Rem, into killing L and his aide Watari.

A Feel Good AMV

    One of the nominations for best use of lip-syncing for 2009 at www.animemusicvideos.org. Certainly one I'd vote for, it's a rather funny video and has already been awarded best comedy, in a previous constest. A good selection of scenes from various anime, song by Avenue Q.

Schadenfreude

Literary Usage and Philosophical Analysis 

The Book of Proverbs mentions an emotion similar to that now described by the word schadenfreude: "Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth, and let not thine heart be glad when he stumbleth: Lest the LORD see it, and it displease him, and he turn away his wrath from him." (Proverbs 24:17-18, King James Version).

In the Nicomachean Ethics, Aristotle used the term epikhairekakia (alternatively epikairekakia; ἐπιχαιρεκακία in Greek) as part of a triad of terms, in which epikhairekakia stands as the opposite of phthonos, and nemesis occupies the mean. Nemesis is "a painful response to another's undeserved good fortune," while phthonos is "a painful response to any good fortune," deserved or not. The epikhairekakos person actually takes pleasure in another's ill fortune.^[17][18]
During the 17th century, Robert Burton wrote in his work The Anatomy of Melancholy, "Out of these two [the concupiscible and irascible powers] arise those mixed affections and passions of anger, which is a desire of revenge; hatred, which is inveterate anger; zeal, which is offended with him who hurts that he loves; and ἐπιχαιρεκακία, a compound affection of joy and hate, when we rejoice at other men's mischief, and are grieved at their prosperity; pride, self-love, emulation, envy, shame, &c., of which elsewhere."

Susan Sontag's book "Regarding the Pain of Others", published in 2003, is a study of the issue of how the pain/misfortune of some affects others, namely whether war photography and war paintings can be helpful as anti-war tools or if they only serve some sense of schadenfreude in some viewers.

Philosopher and sociologist Theodor Adorno defined schadenfreude as “largely unanticipated delight in the suffering of another which is cognized as trivial and/or appropriate.”

Scientific Studies

A New York Times article in 2002 cited a number of scientific studies of schadenfreude, which it defined as "delighting in others' misfortune." Many such studies are based on social comparison theory, the idea that when people around us have bad luck, we look better to ourselves. Other researchers have found that people with low self-esteem are more likely to feel schadenfreude than are people who have high self-esteem.

A 2006 experiment suggests that men, but not women, enjoy seeing bad people suffer. The study was designed to measure empathy, by watching which brain centers are stimulated when subjects inside an fMRI observe someone having a painful experience. Researchers expected that the brain's empathy center would show more stimulation when those seen as good got an electric shock than they would if the shock was given to someone the subject had reason to consider bad. This was indeed the case, but for male subjects the brain's pleasure centers also lit up when someone else got a shock that the male thought was well-deserved.

Brain-scanning studies show that schadenfreude is correlated with envy. Strong feelings of envy activated physical pain nodes in the brain's dorsal anterior cingulate cortex; the brain's reward centers (e.g. the ventral striatum) were activated by news that the people envied had suffered misfortune. The magnitude of the brain's schadenfreude response could even be predicted from the strength of the previous envy response.

A 2009 study indicates that the hormone-like chemical called oxytocin may be involved in the feeling of shadenfreude. In that study, it was reported that when participants in a game of chance were pitted against a player they considered arrogant, inhaling oxytocin through the nose enhanced their feelings of schadenfreude when their opponent lost as well as their feelings of envy when their opponent won.
